【3分鐘搞懂易混淆字】
在英文中，有很多單字被翻譯成中文的意思看起來是一樣的，但在英文本身的字義或用法上卻有不同。如果不小心用錯了，外國人有可能會錯意喔！
今天就先和大家分享這兩個單字：
collect v.s. gather
這兩個字不論是日常生活，或是 多益、托福或雅思考試，都是極為常見的單字。它們都有「收集、聚集」的意思，但字義或用法上有什麼差別呢？

1. 用於物時，gather指將分散的東西聚集在一起，強調過程；collect則有精心地、有選擇地收集，強調結果。
《例1》The little girl gathered some wild flowers. 這個小女孩摘了一些野花。
《例2》The teacher went round the class to gather the papers. 老師在教室裡走了一圈收集試卷。
《例3》Gino has collected many stamps. Gino收集了許多郵票。
《例4》They are collecting this material at the points of origin. 他們正在產地收集這種材料。
2. 用於人或動物作「聚集」之意時，gather可以當作及物、也可以不及物；collect 只能當不及物動詞。
《例1》The crowd is gathering. 人群正在聚集。
《例2》They gathered the refugees in a church. 他們把難民集中在一座教堂裡。
《例3》The crowd soon collected at the scene of the accident. 人群迅速聚集在事故現場。
3. collect 還可以當作「領取、接走」之意，其受詞可為「物」、也可為「人」。
